TSS Syndrome

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is a very rare but serious toxic disease which may affect men, women and children. It occurs due to toxins caused by a bacterium usually living in the human body. Approximately half of the TSS cases are observed in women during the menstrual period. TSS is associated with the use of tampons, but it may also occur during menstruation, in women, who do not use tampons. The early diagnostics and treatment are very important, because TSS could have fatal consequences.

TSS Symptoms:
Should symptoms which may include high fever (38˚C or above), vomiting, headache, diarrhoea, dizziness, sore throat, muscular pain or a sunburn-like rash suddenly occur during your period or even should you feel generally unwell, remove the tampon gently and consult a physician immediately. Inform the physician that you are menstruating and that you are in fear of having TSS. If you have ever had TSS, consult a physician before using tampons again.
